How Does It Work?
Prior to your appointment you will be asked to complete a questionnaire that assists us in our assessment and decision making.
Then you'll be seen by one of our team and be taken through a clinical assessment. This enables us to diagnose your concussion accurately. From there, we will design a treatment plan, and if necessary, bring you in for further assessments.
Should you need it we can also refer you to into our comprehensive concussion treatment service for specialist rehabilitation to assist your recovery.

Our Approach
Historically the most widely prescribed treatment for concussion was complete rest. Over the past decade, it has become clear that this can make it less likely that a patient will recover quickly. While in most cases, it is still important to rest to some extent, it is increasingly recognised that taking a more proactive approach to treatment is beneficial.
At Axis, we employ this 'Active Recovery’ approach. This generally involves physical activity, physiotherapy techniques, and other treatments tailored to the patient's individual needs and symptoms. International research, including data collected at our clinics, has clearly shown that this approach leads to a more rapid and reliable recovery.
We aim to get you moving as quickly and as safely as possible, and in doing so, speed up your recovery and your return to sport.

How do I make an appointment?
We require a referral to be seen in our Acute Sports Concussion Clinic. You can be referred by a doctor, physiotherapist, school nurse or other healthcare provider. Referrals can be sent to referrals@axissportsmedicine.co.nz.
Please ensure the referral clearly states the sport you were involved in and the date of injury.
One of our team will then contact you within 2 working days to arrange an appointment.
