Greg is a Sport & Medicine Physician who has returned to Dunedin after several years working in Canberra, Australia.
Dunedin has played a major part in Greg's career. He studied extensively at the University of Otago, completing degrees in physical education, science, physiotherapy, and medicine and surgery, as well as postgraduate qualifications in sports medicine and child health. His background in physiotherapy and exercise science gives him a broad perspective on injury assessment, rehabilitation and return-to-activity.
Greg has extensive experience working in professional sport. He is currently Team Doctor for both the Highlanders and New Zealand Rugby League team. During his time in Australia, Greg worked as a Sport & Exercise Physician at the Specialist Sports Medicine Centre in Canberra and as Club Doctor for the Canberra Raiders in the NRL. He has now returned to Dunedin, where he combines his clinical work at Axis with his ongoing roles in elite sport.
Greg enjoys managing the full range of musculoskeletal and sporting problems, from acute injuries and concussion through to persistent problems affecting a person's ability to work, exercise or compete. His approach focuses on establishing a clear diagnosis, understanding the demands that matter to each patient and developing a practical plan to get them back to activity.
Before medicine, Greg was an accomplished rower. Growing up in South Africa, he was an age-group national champion, received Springbok colours and represented South Africa at the World Junior Rowing Championships.
His own background in sport continues to shape his interest in helping athletes and active people recover and remain active.
