Covid-19 for Patients

All appointments at Axis in Auckland under Level 1 will be in clinic with the option of Telehealth (phone or video call).

Telehealth (phone or video call) consultations remain a useful alternative for both patients and clinicians, and we will continue to have this available to all patients. We have found this a useful medium for many clinical problems and can arrange scans and treatment plans remotely. This can also be an effective method for follow-up consultations.

Please contact our team on 09 521 9846 or info@axissportsmedicine.co.nz if you would like to have your consultation proceed via Telehealth instead of face to face.

For the safety of our patients and clinicians, we have the following measures in place at our clinics:

  • We request that if you are suffering from respiratory symptoms, or have any illness, please stay home and have your appointment via Telehealth or delay until you are well.
  • Please wait in your car on arrival (to reduce numbers in our waiting rooms) until 5 minutes before your appointment time.
  • There will be a maximum of one visitor allowed to attend with patients (unless arranged prior)
  • Use of hand sanitiser on arrival will be required for all patients and visitors entering the clinic.
  • We would like you to wear a mask if you are able.
  • You should bring your own shorts if attending for lower limb or back issues.
  • Clinicians may be wearing PPE during consultations.
  • Where possible, our team will continue to avoid prolonged close contact with patients.
  • Clinicians will undertake frequent handwashing and drying during and between consultations.
  • Consultation rooms will be cleaned between each consultation.

What is Telehealth?

It is a private and secure way to have a consultation with your doctor without having to physically be in the room. All you need is a phone, or preferably a computer or tablet.

Is it any good?

We’ve had really positive feedback on the consultations from our patients. They’re really happy they don’t need to come into the clinic but can still receive a diagnosis and some advice on managing their problem.

Our team are really experienced and can often tell a lot about your injury by taking a full history, asking a few key questions and seeing the way you’re moving or are restricted in your movement on-screen.

We have been doing this type of consult for a long time - it’s not just because of the COVID-19 situation. In fact, our team manage many of New Zealand’s elite athletes overseas in this manner.

Shouldn’t I just book to see my doctor face to face?

The best thing we can do is begin working on your problem as quickly as possible and telehealth facilitates our ability to see patients more easily during their working day.

Not only can we diagnose your issue, but we can arrange imaging and further investigate your problem as needed.  We can also prescribe medication, arrange work certificates and create a treatment plan without you having to leave your home or workplace.

Your doctor will determine when/if you need to come into the clinic to be seen in person for further assessment.
